December 2022 #2

Some of our recent brews
Friends:

As we wait for the year to turn over, I wanted to leave you with one more suggestion, and an offer that involves beer for you.

As many of you know, I have the privilege of sitting on the board of the Independent Shakespeare Co. of Los Angeles and serving as its chair. For over 15 years, ISC has presented classic theatre for free in Griffith Park during the summer, serving over 40,000 audience members annually. The company also presents smaller plays during the year in their theatre in Atwater Village, most recently an incandescent presentation of Samuel Beckett's Happy Days.

ISC provides a vital community-building function for LA. Its audience is diverse, young, and a large portion has no other access to live theatre. ISC highlights performers who reflect the diversity of Los Angeles, is a signatory to the Los Angeles Anti-Racist Theatre Standards, and commissions new works such as White People Do Not Know How to Behave at Entertainments Designed for Ladies and Gentlemen of Colour.

And we do this all on a relative shoestring—compared to our sister companies in places like San Francisco and New York, our budget per audience member served is a bargain. But almost all of that budget comes from small donations such as the one I'm winding up to suggest.

I am proud to support the work ISC does and I want to encourage you to support it as well. If you are so moved to give to ISC's Year End Fundraising Campaign in the amount of at least $200, I will—like a boozy version of NPR—deliver or send you the premium of a variety 6-pack of some of our latest brews, and possibly a few collectible coasters. The lineup in the picture above is merely illustrative—your actual selection will be a surprise.

To claim your premium, email a copy of your donation receipt to [email protected] and I'll hook you up; it's as simple as that.

Please consider ISC as one last beneficiary of your generosity this season, and we can raise a glass together for culture and community.
